Yuletide!

I hope everyone had a lovely December 25th, whether celebrating Christmas or just eat-all-the-sausages day ♥

My Christmas was much enhanced by receiving TWO fabulous Yuletide fics in the Psmith fandom, which I was totally delighted by *g*

They make a very good complementary pair, actually, one in more of the tone of the books, with a delicious story of Psmith and Mike adventuring over Europe whilst at university and getting into scrapes and situations whilst they figure some important things out, and the second taking a darker twist on their possible future and leading them into WW1 and the Royal Flying Corps, which of course works very well for me *g*

The Grand Tour (3345 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Psmith - P. G. Wodehouse
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Mike Jackson/Rupert Psmith
Characters: Rupert Psmith, Mike Jackson
Additional Tags: Hotels, Sharing a Bed, Romantic Friendship, Idiots in Love
Summary:

Psmith and Mike take a tour of the Continent during summer holidays.

(Mike's almost as smart as Psmith is always telling everyone.)

The 'idiots in love' tag says it all! God I love that type of pairing dynamic, and I love it here, with them just as snarky and devoted and TOTALLY INVOLVED WITH EACH OTHER as they are in canon, except of course taking it that bit further with the lovely realisation at the end. If you like fics where people are trying to figure out why they feel lonely when they can't share a bedroom with their dearest friend, this is so for you *g*

Cricket and dancing in the officers' mess.

I put in my comment 'bittersweet in the best possible combination of the painful and the lovely' and it is just that. This doesn't shy away from the cruel realities of WW1, but gives us something sweet and warm to cling to in the shape of Psmith and Mike, there for each other and there for the men of their squadron, in a world where you might as well dance cheek-to-cheek with the man you love in the officers' mess because who knows what tomorrow will bring. For everyone who likes war stories with a queer theme, this is fab.

If I'd only got one of these stories, I could have commented on either 'this is exactly what I wanted from my prompt' and I'm so lucky to have got both! Yay Yuletide! \o/

If you're not acquainted with the 'Psmith' stories by PG Wodehouse, they are very charming and hugely slashy, and I very much recommend them *g*

Dear Yuletide Santa

You’re clearly a person of general fabulousness since you like these fandoms *g* I’m sure whatever you feel moved to write will be great, and optional details are of course optional. This information is just here to help you if you (like me) like to have that kind of detail in requests.

Yuletide Reveal

I threw a wide open net with my requests for Yuletide this year, and got a deliciously rare gift out of it in the form of an Omegaverse fic in Tennis RPF 'verse *bounces* but focussing more on Roger and his relationship to various other Swiss sportsmen at a national awards ceremony, which was the kind of crossover I really like (and thanks to the Olympics I know who Cancellara is! *g*). Roger's the omega in this set-up, and it subverts the standard of 'in control most masculine most proper' Roger in a great way. Thank you very much to my author Jassanja! *g*

Yuletide Reveal

Firstly the gift I received this year was a lovely Addams Family fic just as I requested:

we'll have some fun if it stops raining (1240 words) by missi
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Wednesday Addams/Joel Glicker, Wednesday Addams/Amanda Buckman, Amanda Buckman/NJ Normanmeyer
Summary:

Wednesday's letter just says, "Pink strawberry scented paper isn't a good start. India ink for an hour in your hair."

It's got snark, alternative!win, femslashery, Amanda and most of all Wednesday just right, I really enjoyed it and I rec it to you all *g*

My contributions to Yuletide this year:

Sweet, Sweet Home (1481 words)
Fandom: Crimson Petal and the White - All Media Types
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Agnes Rackham/Sugar
Characters: Agnes Rackham, Sugar, Sophie Rackham
Summary:

'Sweetheart lead her out from Before, drew her from that Vale of Sorrows and Shadow of Death. Sweetheart did not have wings, not really, but she gave them to Agnes all the same.'

Agnes, Sugar and Sophie live Happily Ever After.

(I don't know if any of you have read 'Crimson Petal and the White'? This is more based on the excellent BBC TV series, which if anything has an even stronger F/F vibe. I was *desperate* for the story to end this way...)

How Many Strawberries Grow in the Sea? (20922 words)
Fandom: Wooden Horse Series - Eric Williams, The Charioteer - Mary Renault
Rating: Explicit
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Peter Howard/John Clinton
Characters: Peter Howard, John Clinton, Nigel Wilde, Ralph Lanyon
Summary:

'Shaking himself a little, John methodically took off his new uniform jacket and then sat on the bed to remove his boots. New boots as well, issued on his return to Britain, stiff and tight and warm. Boots that had not marched or paced, boots that had none of the earth of Poland on them, boots without holes, without part of the laces removed for other projects.
That part of his life was over.'

Back in Britain following the escape, John is alone with the impossible questions.

(We all know how much I love writing WW2, y/y? *g* I was delighted to get this prompt from kindkit as my main prompt, and had so much fun constructing this from the two books in the series and doing a little light research along the way [well, why own the 'Good Housekeeping: Best of the 1940s' book if not to help you write slash?]. Kit actually suggested the Charioteer crossover being possible in the prompt, and after thinking about it for five minutes I realised Ralph would be incredibly useful)

In which War Horse SpoilersCollapse )

Notes: Thank you elfwhistletree for once again beta reading *g* Thanks to kindkit for feeding my sense that this was a story the world needed *g*

This fic is based on about ten minutes of the movie 'War Horse' but you don't have, I think, to have seen the film to understand this - if you'd like a generic WW1 gay romance featuring Cumberbatch (Jamie) and Hiddleston (Jim), go for it!

Historically speaking, 'War Horse' the film is a bit hard to untangle (and Morpurgo didn't help by calling both of these men James...) The book refers to Jim and Jamie's unit as Yeomanry (being the volunteers rather like the TA) rather than cavalry and I've stuck with that as it makes sense and helps explain why Jim doesn't already own a horse. I've used film rather than book canon where they differ. I've invented a title and a stately home for Jamie and none of this or indeed the Yeomanry is intended to refer to any real persons or places.

Colditz and Tintin Fics

I was in a mood to write rather fluffy filth, and verily here some is *g* The first one was one of those 'wrote half of it ages ago and latterly found it on my hard drive' things (I need to start labelling my documents more helpfully - calling this one 'gravel' probably wasn't going to jog my memory). The second is, I'm afraid, an indulgence to fill in a bit of my own head-canon from an earlier fic, but it can stand alone as well, I suspect.
